Lets see,

Theses little souls made the long trip to their new home in England. I hear that they are very happy but very confused about the cold weather.

Ellie left uni and started her new career as a baker.

My wonderful Hubby turned the big ---50

I released Georgie Girl and her friend George as a pattern .

In the pattern there is a girl bear, a boy bear, shift, overalls and knitted cardie.

Adding to my Herd

There's two reasons or should I say three, that you haven't HERD from me for a while.

I was very unlucky and got glandular fever early this year and it knocked me right on my bum.

Being so sick made my Bi-polar worse and we had to increase my meds.

Not a very nice time at all.

At the end of April the very best kind of medication

arrived in the form of Tontoand Bailie.

My best friend Mel needed to send them down

after she sold 30 of her 60 acres. I wanted to hold

off cause of Inka's age but she has never been

happier.She is still very feisty girl and bosses the

boys around constantly.

Bailie is the
son of Inka

and will turn 11 this year,

Inka is in her 30's and still with us.

Tonto is the son of Cassie

who passed awayat 33,

4 years ago.

Tonto will turn 10 this year.

David explains it best, when he said

"all you need to make me happy is a ton of horse"

my meds are back to the old doses :0)
The horses are a great way to loose weight too, I've dropped a dress size :0))

Hey I'm only 6 months behind now.

Ellie and I arrived back at Bear essence in February. It was soooo verrry goood to have my Ellie there to help.

We tag team taught for over a week

(with days off in between work shops)

Baby June arrived in Bear Tails also in February, finishing of the trio of April, May & Baby June.

March brought the Sydney Teddy Bear Affair. My Favorite show of them all. This year I had some very good help, in my 81 year old Mum and her 85 yer old sister. I had so much fun with them as we cackled the day away. The most exciting part of the day was when I arrived back to my stand to find that the Galls laughing and giggling and very proud, cause they had been selling bears

Well the last time we spoke was around September, so lets catch up.

I went down to Bear Essence in September, To teach some work-shops in their brand new shop, its like the Dolls House I always wanted so so pretty. It was so great to have Monica Spicer ( yeah I'm a name dropper) in the classwe laugh our self silly and the two of us are now known as Tweedle-Dump and Tweedle-Dee.

The end of the year was the normal rush, clatter and bang. I don't handle big crowds to well so my shopping is always done early. It was so hot here that we all treasured the lower temp. on Christmas Day its self.

I would like you to meet Miss Edwina "Cranberry Kissers", the pattern.

I used 4 layers of bone bridal tulle for her skirt and hand painted the lovely rose lace that I found at Lace Cottage in QLD.

I have made a few Miss Edwina's now :0)

The first was the work shop in Melbourne that we called Vintage Miss Edwina. She is still one of my very favorite bears.

A special order for a friend That I called Strawberries & Cream. I lined embossed tulle with pale pink silk and used picket edge ribbon for this sweety.

I guess you-all have wondered where I'd gotten too. Well I've been here, but hard at work preparing patterns.

I know by now, that you know, that spelling is not my strong spot. he he he he :o(

So you can imagine just how long it takes me to finish a pattern. Even spell check can't help. Thank God for Ellen, Val, Carol and Kim who keep a close eye on my spelling and good friends like Monica who get a giggle out of it.

I can pick mohair, that's great fun I also play hide and seek in it,

love too sort flowers, the vintage ones taste really goood.

and I can even pic copic colours.

I really have too keep an eye on the help though.

Quality control is the biggest part of my job.

Here we are 2/3's of the way through October, where do the days go, I wish knew. Mine are a muddle of mohair, ultra suede, velvet flowers and lace. Nice place to be till you look up and see a kitchen full of dishes and dust bunnies that may just carry you off.

I try not to look away from my teddy bear table to often the site is just to frightening. The mohair has such a soothing affect. Much nicer to look at.

At the moment I'm very much in love with Helmbold's 5/8 sparse signature finish in Sand. It's what I used to make Miss Edwina in. All the colours are fab but Old Ivory is spectacular too.

Better go still have to pack the kits for the work shop. I could only get enough lace and antique flowers for ten, ahhhh but what a beautiful ten they'll be. :0]

BUT I just had the urge to try someone new. A bit out of my comfort zone, I never really work with dark backing and i still think he needs a tweak here and there but with Ellie and Sandi giving me loads of inspiration I think he's well on the way.

I've just come home from a wonderful trip to Melbourne :o)

I went down to teach 3 x 1 day work shops and had an absolute ball. All the lovely girls there always make me feel so much at home. I have found several long lost sister and I'm sure some of us where even separated at birth.
I know its been a while since we're talked but it has been so hectic here. I have quite a lot of orders that I'm slowly getting through, Then I jetted of to Melbourne, while I was down there I finished The little galls pictured below for "Bear Tails". Their names are "April, May and Baby June".

I'm now working on "Trinket" the baby Elephant for "Bear Creations". I have a show on the 20th of September and still have no bears made for that :o( Then I fly out to Melbourne early November for a "Flakey the Kitten", "Buster the Puppy" and "Edwina" dressed in Sense and Sensibility \ Georgena Style work shops. Fly home Tuesday night and have a show at Mittagong on Sunday the 15Th, and still no bears made :o((

I think I may be a little bit busy!

All this for a person that was afraid to fly by herself. I'm now the jet setting Queen. Even sewing on the plane. So if you don't hear from me for a while you will know where I am. I'll keep popping picture up so you can see what I've been working on.

I guess you've been wondering where I have been for the past week or so. Well, I went to visit my lovely dentist Cal. You see part of my wisdom tooth had decided to fall out,

David said that there's nothing to it, there's a loud pop and out comes the tooth.

Yeah sure :o[

My tooth of course decided to be stubborn and an hour and a half later, a piece of jaw bone the size of a ten cent piece and ten stitches to boot,

I was a very "sad for herself" old bear.

The one good thing, I thought that with such a sore mouth I would not be able to eat any thing and would looooose weight.

Wrong :o(

The blondest black dog in the world is having a bad week.

Rosie not quite three

Rosie's ear had been worrying her at bit, it was a little itchy. I just thought that she had a mozzie bite or may be a flee bite but when it swelled up to the size of an extra head over night we were of to the vet. It seemed that she had scratched so hard she broke a blood vessel inside her ear and that had formed a hematoma, :'o(

So that afternoon she had it drained. There was so much extra skin that the Vet had to stitch through her ear and hold it in place with ten buttons.

Yesterday was Sunday, she went for her daily run with her sister Lillie and when she returned I noticed alot of blood and then the EXTRA whole in her tummy. You could fit your thumb in it though none of us actually tried that. She was in shock and I had to keep pressure on it whilst Davie made an emergency call to the Vet. Dave had done a first aid course so we patched her up with a bandaid instructed by the Vet and shes having another trip to the Vet today.

I think they will reserve a bed for her from now on.

I was having one of those days, You see I have bipolar, most days my bears & meds keep my head out of those dark places but yesterday I could hardly see the light.

I knew I had to do a bear for an up coming work shop and was trying really hard to create the image that was in my head. The first bear I made was going to be to big for the one day work shop and I had put far to much work in the hat the ladies would have a fit, fun but a fit. So I set the head & hat aside and tried again.
The bear was 20% smaller and as I work my day became brighter.

This little face emerged and lifted my day.

Not the bear I was after for the needle felted hat and jacket work shop. But a real BLESSING she made my day.

So I started the 3rd bear and have most of her finished, all I need to do is her jacket. Will post her in part 2 of "it's not really pink.

Its been over thirty years since I've been in a plane, This old bear likes the safety of her much loved cave. The warmth that comes from making bears in winter. The hope of the new colours that you dye for spring. The joy that comes from a new
little face. Now I'm leaving the comfort of my cave to fly to Melbourne. I have 2, 2day work shops to teach which I'm looking very forward too but the plane is a whole new and nervous thing for me.
So I will be taking a few friends to keep me company. I know they will enjoy the trip.

Hi bear people im Ellen Merylin's eldest daughter and ive hi-jacked my mums blogg to see what you guys think of my new bear friend bob. They are about 2-2.5cm and i crocheted them with a 4ply wool then air brushed their markings.

For this set I hand painted their eyes in Lavender pearlx and fine blue glitter.

While I'm on the subject of Poultry I think you should meet Victoria the Duck and Lennie the Drake. These two are the ambassadors of my 13 ducks, If I haven't fed them by 8 in the morning Victoria and Lennie climb up the veranda stairs (no easy feat for a duck) and come into the house to find me.

I had Victoria pulling on my pyjama leg the other morning even be for I had had my second coffee of the day. Gotta love Ducks

Lulu in her Tutu is going to live in Belgium, to all the girls that are doing the Melbourne work shops at Bear Essence we will also be doing Lulu in her tutu, but a different body colour.

Great Day at the Show

It's 7:45 Monday morning and The Sydney Teddy-Bear Affair has come and gone, "running around like a blue ass fly" for 6 weeks payed off. I had a lovely day, met and made several new friends and for a hermet like me that's a really big deal. I couldn't have done it with out the ever helpful hand of Ellen-Rose my wonderful daughter, who out did herself again, maning the table like a trojan, charming a-many avid bear collector and generally making the day a real joy.
Thank you to Melisa, who as usual made the day enjoyable & so much fun. To the wonderful collectors that purchased my bears it was so amazing to see so many smiles and to know that my little fury guys touched your hearts :) To all the other Bear Artists, thank you for your kind words and much needed support, you all really made my day shine.

My new car

I through you might like to see my new car. His name is Humphrey after my late DAD. I'm the 3rd owner and his in excellent condition considering his 35. BUT the very best thing is that he's Pale Teddy Gold. The manual calls the colour mustard but ! Behind is JAC he belongs to Ellie and has a small rust problem. We now own 5 'V'dubs and enough spears to build an other. The oldest is RAT 1958 to mine 1974. Most of them work, one is even having its roof chopped off. But Humphrey's the best "I'm not bias in any way"

I finished Tigger from my Shabby Tabby Range last night. He has gold "buzzard eyes" and they really do the job. His tongue is made from ultra suede, air brushed and lightly sculpted. I started with soft yellow mohair and air brushed his Tigger bits. I took him to work to day to show my class and guess what ?

I sold him.

Tuesday morning, and another one down. Here's Leola sitting on my work table waiting for her crystal butterfly necklace.This fur came from Lou fur and I really like the way it made up. I used a red brown copic pen for the shadows on the seams and a grey brown around her eyes. This is the second set of eyes she's had, as the first where mauve buzzard eyes (beautiful eyes), but not quite the look I was after. The soft doe look suites her better!

It's been one of those weeks!!
Alyssa came down with a heavy head cold and had Monday and Tuesday off. Davie had to have Wednesday, Thursday and Friday off due to a tummy bug. Wednesday, Duncan hobbled home from school with a banged up knee. You would think maybe from sport, but no his friend kicked him in it and bent it back wards,
Just great.
I went off to work on Thursday and had a lovely peacefull day teaching teddy's and their makers, to come home to find Ellie needed to be picked up early from work with a tummy bug. So this week I've been Nurse first and bear maker second. I had a full day of teaching yesterday ( Saturday) and again had a great day.
The Sydney Teddy Bear Affair is approaching fast, 22nd March. I will have to put bear making into top gear to finish all I have planned. I have a few bears that only need a little work and they will be finished. I'm 1\2 way through a ballerina like Lola. pictured above.
Glad to say all patients are better or mending well. :)

One off these things is not like the others

Last Monday I dyed loads of mohair, in 7 co-ordinating colours, in 3 different pile lengths for the Sydney Bear Affair. I have great plains for sets friends. Just my normal "Story Book Buddy's", smiling bears and rabbits with the addition of pouting bears and elephants. Also, Ellie would like some mice and Alyssa would like pandas. I would like an extra set of hands.

The show is approaching at a very fast rate and as normal I'm in complete panic mode. Sewing like a mad woman, running around trying to find the right trimmings and flowers that a little buddy might need, rummaging through box after box of goodies that have been stashed away for just the right occasion. I've also been knitting little cardigans for them to wear,

most buttoned up wrong.

So do you think I was surprise when my faithful little companion made himself OH SO very comfortable in my pile of newly dyed mohair?

"But you did put this here for ME? 'cause I'm sooo special"

I did have to look twice to see Buster there he blended so well with the mohair. Now you know where my inspiration comes from. I'm off to air bush, bears not Buster.

Today I'm a bit teary as my brave hubby has gone off to fight the FIRES in Victoria. He will be gone till Saturday afternoon and with the death of a volunteer yesterday I'm a little worried.
I know he is smart BUT, well you know! It's something he has to do & he has been trained in all types of hazards but I still worry. Too all the others in Victoria my love & hope goes to you all.

I would just like to thank all my new blogger friends.

My whole family is into computers except me. My eldest daughter introduced me to shopping on the net. Boy was that a bad move, the card is always full now! But other than that I have only ever used the computer as a great big word processor.

Now that I have the hang of it, it's your enthusiasm that motivating me. I get so excited when I see a new message or follower.

It's been awhile since I last blogged.

Ive been busy teaching bears most of this week & then one rush Valentine's day order.

Thanks to hubby, who told me about the order Tuesday night & that it was needed for Thursday. He also kept the money cause, as he said, " it 's the closest he would ever come to getting any of the money that I have spent on bears back".

Davie called this little guy AB. I was really pleased with his Vampire teeth. Mark, who ordered him for his new girl friend loves his red nose.

Above I popped in a picture of my work spot. I have started making so many bears that the bears & I don't fit in my sewing room any more. We now all live in the family room. Ellie has joined me there with her sewing machine so I can help her went she gets stuck. I'm enjoying her company, I can bounce my ideas off her & I'm her "talking pattern instructions" It's working out well. I do miss her on the days that she works however but I tend to achieve much more on those days.

As you can see I'm a messy bear maker but I do like to be able to reach every thing from where I sit. Well It's well passed Ten in the morning & I have 3 bears 1\2 made, better get to it & finish them .

Bye-bye to My William

At the show on Sunday I was chatting to a lovely lady. We talked for some time about her collection of antique bears. I enjoyed lessening to her interesting stories about them , while we where talking she was constantly picking up My William, straightening his over sized jumper & looking at his sweet little knees. He has elbows under that big jumper too!

My William has always been one of my favorite little guys. He would often keep me company while I made bears. I even made him a small pair of boots that look like Doc Martens.

After awhile she passed him to me & said " I'll take William home with me , he's just the little man to brighten up the spot between some of my antiques bears". I kiss William on the fuzzy forehead & waved goodbye. As I watched him disappear with the lady, she raised him to her face & gave him a really big kiss right on his nose.

This made me feel all warm & gooey inside cause My William was off to a good home where he will be loved "a lot".

Well my fingers are finally better, with some extra calluses just to improve my bear making, the more you have, the less likely you are of needing a thimble. I find it so hard to keep one on my finger anyway.

This is the little bear I started on the week end. I had a name for her last night? & didn't write it down, now its completely slipped my mind ( I sometimes wounder what mind since mines been missing for some time now). So when I remember I'll let you in on it too.

Fun at the show

It's now Tuesday, 2 days since the Heavenly Stitches Show & 2 days not sewing bears. I'm suffering from horrible bear making withdrawals, but my fingers are healing nicely.

I made 8 new bears in a week for the show & my hands are really suffering, not to mention all the ignored house work & grocery shopping I didn't do.

Thank goodness for supportive husbands.

I'm hoping to pick up my needle & thread this afternoon far to many bears running around in my head not to be sewing & there's not enough room up there for to many misbehaving bears

This little guy didn't even make the show as Duncan (my 16 year old son) snavelled it for his girlfriend Crystal.
